Scared of the Dentist? You Can Relax With Sedation Dentistry

A beautiful, healthy smile is an asset but did you know it is also a necessity for good health? When your mouth is infected by bacteria, it taxes your immune system and increases your risk of systemic illness. This is one of the many reasons that dental treatment must be scheduled regularly. San Dieguito Dental Group understands that you may suffer from dental anxiety and want to make sure that your oral health and overall health are never compromised by it. If you are scared of the dentist, you can turn to us for sedation dentistry.

  • Sedation Options

    IV Sedation

IV sedation dentistry is also known as sleep dentistry. Drugs are administered intravenously to ensure the greatest comfort for you. Patient who are scared of the dentist often opt for this sedation method because though you are able to follow directions during surgery, you feel no pain and have no lasting memory of the experience. IV sedation is an excellent option for those who have dental anxiety, sensitive teeth, or complex dental issues.

    Oral Sedation

A sedative can be prescribed several days before your visit and taken immediately before you are driven to our office to deliver a relaxed, groggy state. With oral sedation, most patients sleep through their visits.

    Nitrous Oxide

With this method, a colorless gas is administered via a nose mask to place you in a relaxed, euphoric state while we perform your treatment. The effects are only temporary, so you can return to work or drive yourself home after the appointment.

    Local Anesthetic

Administered via injection, local anesthetic is typically Lidocaine which will numb only the area surrounding the treatment site.
